Salt chlorination is a process that cleans your pool water and keeps it in perfect condition for swimming for a long time. It works with a salt chlorinator, a device that turns salt into chlorine through a natural process called electrolysis.

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
If you decide to install a salt chlorinator in your pool, Total Pool will connect it to the filtration circuit. At the start of the swimming season, the salt is added directly to the pool, in the amount recommended for its size and how you use it.
Once the salt is in the water (you only need to add it once at the start of summer), it reaches the chlorinator, which breaks down its molecules to produce chlorine and clean the water. Salt is simply sodium chloride. This process is called electrolysis. The chlorine and sodium then recombine and the cycle starts again.
For salt chlorination to be effective and for the chlorinator to clean the water properly, it is essential that the pH is right (between 7.2 and 7.5).

One of the biggest advantages of salt chlorination is that the chlorine comes from salt, not from harsh chemicals as with traditional chlorine. Whether liquid or tablets, chemical chlorine disinfects the water but leaves residues that are harsh on skin and eyes.
Salt chlorination, by contrast, doesn’t irritate eyes or skin, or damage hair. In fact, the water doesn’t have that typical chlorine smell. It is a more natural and healthy option.
